Day 1 – Saturday
- Arrival by early/mid-afternoon
- Belize Zoo
- lecture – Eli Miller, director of Monkey Bay – conservation in Belize, Maya corridor
Day 2 – Sunday
- optional birding with a professional guide at dawn
- guided hike Monkey Bay to Sibun River through 5 ecosystems, optional swim
- lunch at Ecolution with Shane’s grandmother
- discussion with Shane, proprietor of Ecolution about reclaiming road-side land to transform it into productive space for wildlife and to feed the local community
- Community Baboon Sanctuary – a community project of 7 villages along the Belize River to create and maintain habitat for the endangered Yucatan Black Howler Monkey. Interactions with the Howlers is guaranteed.
- lecture – Anthony – the tropics, why they are so diverse, why they are important, what you can do to help protect them.
Day 3 – Monday
- morning horseback ride along the Mopan River to the ancient Mayan city of Xunantunich, climb the temples and learn about the sophisticated Mayan culture
- lunch at the San Antonio Women’s Coop (part of a global project to empower women in under-served communities
- learn about the on-going projects at the Coop
- either: Raptor Rehabilitation or Butterfly Sanctuary
Day 4 – Tuesday
- Actun Tunichal Mucknal (ATM) Cave, one of the most intriguing and archeologically significant caves on the planet, Mayan culture was based on the underworld of caves
Day 5 – Wednesday
- Cockscomb Wildlife and Jaguar Sanctuary, the first and only Jaguar sanctuary on the planet, hike to Tiger Fern Falls, float the river
- Maya Center, producer of chocolate
- afternoon boat ride to Tobacco Caye
- lecture, James Wilkes, the station director, the Meso-American Reef ecosystem
Day 6 – Thursday
- 2 snorkel dives on the reef
- night snorkel excursion on the reef
Day 7 – Friday
- participate in an outer reef clean up and data collection
- kayak excursion to Paradise Caye or snorkel or chill in a hammock
Day 8 – Saturday
- morning snorkel
- leave for the mainland and return to the airport
